Lit Bite: Healer of the Water Monster

November 18, 2023

“You can count on me,” Nathan said, puffing out his chest….How hard could it be to heal a water monster?

When Nathan goes to visit his grandma, Nali, at her summer home on the reservation he never expects adventure. In fact, with no electricity or wifi, he thinks it’s going to be a long boring summer. But when he gets lost in the desert and meets a Holy Being from the Navajo Creation Story – a Water Monster that needs his help, he’ll be swept up in an adventure that will change his life forever.

With this Lit Bite, your child will learn about Navajo mythology and culture, desert ecosystems, and literary terms like imagery, and they will complete a character study.  Packed with discussion starters and activities to take the story further, your child will be having so much fun, that they won’t even know they are learning!

This Lit Bite will take 3 weeks to complete (as written) and is perfect for children ages 10 – 12.
