Unit Study: The Hobbit

      
When most people think of J.R.R. Tolkien, they think of the Lord of the Rings, especially since the release of Peter Jackson’s movie version several years ago. However, Tolkien wrote The Hobbit first, and it is a reading experience that is not to be missed.

This unit is appropriate for upper-elementary through middle school level, and will take five weeks to complete. You will learn about the author, Norse mythology and complete weekly dictation assignments, as well as memorize two poems from the story.
