Summer Read-a-thon Week 3 Theme!

June 24, 2013

Can you believe we’re already at week 3? Time is flying and summer is in full swing!

This week’s theme is a popular one at my house – I’d say at least half of our massive book collection pertains to this topic.

Kids and animals just seem to go together, don’t they? So many fairy tales feature animals as main characters – The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, Little Red Riding Hood…not to mention the plethora of literature for children that is animal related.

Here is this weeks theme related reading suggestions:

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Rooster’s Off to See the World (World of Eric Carle)

The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear (Child’s Play Library)

We Are in a Book! (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type

I, Crocodile

Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs: As Retold by Mo Willems

Ereth’s Birthday (Tales from Dimwood Forest)

James Herriot’s Treasury for Children: Warm and Joyful Tales by the Author of All Creatures Great and Small

The Story of Doctor Dolittle

All Creatures Great and Small

Where the Red Fern Grows

Black Beauty (Signet Classics)

Remember to check back in throughout the week for more activities and fun! Happy reading!
