What is it that makes a fantasy story great? Is it the element of mythology? A world completely different from our own? A touch of magic mixed into a reality similar to our own? When I think of fantasy, I think of mythological creatures (elves, ents, fairies and trolls), magic and wizardry, a completely different world where anything can happen, and maybe a touch of the medieval.
So, in honor of this genre, I am hosting a writing contest! Anyone can enter – you don’t have to have signed up for the read-a-thon before hand. The winners get their stories published here on my website! The age categories are the same as always: 3-5, 6-10 and 11+.
Now for the rules – below I’ll give you a writing prompt to get you started. Write (or have your child dictate to you) a 200 word or less story following the prompt. Send it to me (you can send it in the “Contact Us” page) by midnight (Eastern Time) Wednesday July 31. I’ll read them aloud to my children and we’ll choose the winners from each category and post them on the website sometime during the first week of August.
