2019 Build Your Library Reading Challenge

December 7, 2018

Every year I set various reading goals for myself. One of those goals is to try to complete a categorical reading challenge list.

  • Read a book that has been adapted into a movie
  • Read a story based in mythology
  • Read a book released this year
  • etc.

I’ve done several of the popular ones over the years and I always enjoy them. Even if I never quite manage to check all the boxes. They force me to expand my reading tastes, try new things and find books that I might not have picked up normally, but grabbed to check off a challenge category. Reading outside of our comfort zone is always a good thing.

So this year, I thought it would be fun to create my own BYL challenge. It will still push me out of my reading bubble, but I also wanted it to be something I could get my kids to do as well. Often times, the categories in those online reading challenges don’t translate well with children’s literature.

I sat down and brainstormed a list and then asked my college-age daughter to read it over and help me tweak it. After going over it a few times, I think we are both satisfied that this is a really fun list of challenges for the whole family to enjoy! You might even find books that fit some of these categories are included in the 2019 Family Reading Crates!

I’m looking forward to a great year of reading and I hope you’ll join me and take up the challenge! Comment below with the books you are planning so we can all find new books to fit the challenges!
